Hi there! We’re Bárbara (Babs) and João (JoJo), a Portuguese couple with a passion for travel and photography.
After spending most of our lives in Portugal and four years in the UK, back in 2019 we decided it was time for something different. We quit our jobs, sold most of our belongings, and bought a one-way ticket to Australia. We went on a Working Holiday Visa (WHV), which allowed us to work and travel across the country for a year.
But the adventures didn’t stop there. In 2022 we moved to Canada, where we lived and worked in Toronto for a year and a half, before setting off on an 8-month road trip across Canada and the United States.
We’re now back home, and we’re looking forward to continuing our travels: photographing our own country, exploring Europe, and venturing further.
We love photography and video, and we want to share our journeys with you, without filters, just honest stories and plenty of useful tips.

Our photography journey
Throughout our tutorials, blog posts, and photography, we write about the places we’ve visited and lived in. To help you follow along, here’s a timeline of our adventures, starting with the most recent:
Back to Portugal and Europe – January 2025
After several years abroad, we’ve returned to Portugal for good… or maybe not, only time will tell! For now, we’re staying put to explore our home country and Europe, for as long as that takes.
Canada & USA Road Trip – 2024/2025
We spent eight months in a mini-van we converted ourselves, covering thousands of kilometres across Canada and the United States, but always with our camera on hand. From coast to coast, major cities, national parks and high desert landscapes, it was an experience of freedom and discovery across North America.
True North, Canada – 2022 to 2024
Moving to Canada on a Working Holiday Visa had been on our plans since 2018, after Australia, but the pandemic pushed it back. We finally made it in 2022, settling in Toronto right in the heart of the city. Exploring without a car had its challenges, but we made the most of everything the city had to offer: Lake Ontario, the neighbourhoods, and anywhere else reachable by public transport.
Pandemic in Portugal – 2020 to 2022
When we returned from Australia, the pandemic kept us grounded in Portugal, but we made the most of it. We spent those two years travelling the country from north to south, photographing unique landscapes and rediscovering astrophotography. It was a remarkable period, full of images we still love looking back on.
Down Under, Australia – 2019/2020
An unforgettable year. Six months living and working in Melbourne, followed by five months on the road, living and sleeping out of the car. Exploring Australia at our own pace and on our own terms is something we’ll never forget.
His Majesty’s Land, United Kingdom – 2015 to 2019
After finishing our studies, we knew Portugal, and our hometown of Coimbra in particular, wasn’t offering what we were looking for. The UK was the obvious choice: attractive salaries, a reasonable cost of living, and the English language all made it an easy decision. Bristol became our home, and it was there that João started taking photography seriously. We took full advantage of our location to explore England and Wales, as well as Italy and the Netherlands, where flights were considerably cheaper than from Portugal.
What photography gear do we use?
Photography is an essential part of how we travel, and the gear we use makes a real difference. We shoot primarily with Fujifilm X-series cameras and lenses, which give us the quality and versatility we need. For more dynamic moments we rely on a GoPro and a 360 camera, and the drone helps us capture perspectives that would otherwise be impossible to get.
If you have any questions about our gear or how we use it, get in touch, we love sharing tips and experiences with fellow photographers and travellers.
