1st Week in Melbourne

It has been 3 months since we started living in Melbourne and sometimes we still can’t believe it. Although the flight was long, not as difficult as we thought. We made a stopover in Doha (4h50), where we were able to stretch our legs and rest for a bit.

We landed on the 13th of June, it was night-time, we arrived without any plans, yet only one thing was certain, we had a place to stay for the first week. While we were still in Portugal we booked an Airbnb in Collingwood for the first few days. We had found that this neighbourhood was considered one of the cities most popular, filled with bars, restaurants, coffee shops and vintage clothing stores. There was no lack of things to do and see, but we had to keep focused since our priority was to find a job.

We were given a very warm welcome at Emily and Michael place, our Collingwood A‌i‌r‌b‌n‌b‌. From the beginning they made themselves available to help us in whatever we needed, they put us at ease in the house, gave us tips about Melbourne, and even helped us with our CV’s. We were at home 🙂

Prior to Melbourne, we had 6 days of travelling (Portugal -> Barcelona -> Stockholm -> Doha -> Melbourne) – a night of resting felt like heaven. On the next day, we woke up with so many plans and the eagerness to start our journey. We went to visit Melbourne CBD (city centre) to take care of some fundamentals: bank account, phone SIM card and our tax number. When we got back home we started searching for jobs because we ( laughing at the idea), told ourselves we would get a job in one week. To our surprise and joy, not laughing… We actually DID! Can you believe we both got a job in one week?!

Melbourne is a cosmopolitan city, with a lot of exhibitions, museums, art galleries, restaurants and known for its street art and coffee culture. It is amazing to walk and enjoy life outdoor. It is without a doubt an amazing city and we could not be happier about our decision to make this home…for now!
